LORD SIDDHESWARA SWAMY TEMPLE, TALAKONA
 
The Talakona is pristine environment located in the Sri Venkateswara National Park, Chittoor District of Andhra pradesh; a remarkably well-protected habitat, this area is inhabited by rare medicinal and herbal plants that you might-not find anywhere else. This region is also known for its scenic waterfall, which fills one's heart with joy.
 
Talakona means in Telugu language, Tala means head and Kona means Hill, which got its name as it is starting point of the Tirumala forest range, which is why it is called head of Seshachalam Hills.
 
It is also known for the Lord Siddheswara Swamy Temple, which is located in the forest. There will be a tremendous gathering at the time of Mahasiva Ratri and MaruPongallu – which will occur after 7 days of Mahasiva Ratri- People will stay whole night praying Lord Shiva at Talakona. The celebrations will continue to happen for 10 days prior and post to Mahasivaratri. People from not only Seemandhra, from Telangana, Tamilandu and Karnataka will gather here for a picnic. Plastic is completely banned here to preserve the forest environment.
 
This is also considered as one of the important trucking spots. This place consists of many waterfalls, caves and natural habitat, making it very interesting to visit. Two major waterfalls namely are EgavaJhari (Upper water fall) and DigavaJhari (Lower water fall), where you need to walk in the forest to reach into these places

About Water Falls
There are 2 waterfalls in Talakona, which are the main attractions nearby, which are called as “Egava Jhari” and ”Digava Jhari”. Digava Jhari, is the 1st water falls that comes on the way of Egava Jhari. It is believed that the Pandavas stayed here for some time on their way during Aranyavasam.
 
Specialties at Talakona
 
The Talakona is one of the few precious environmentally diverse locations remaining in the India. This area is protected by the forest ministry of A.P Government, as it contains some of the rarest medicinal plants and endangered species. It is also home to one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the south India. Here the white foam of water diverges, combines and flows downward from a height of 270 ft. forming a mystic experience. The waterfall is surrounded by numerous mountain ranges, having undiscovered caves. According to belief, these ancient caves have sages meditating since the life of Venkateswara Swamy. As the water in the stream and waterfalls touches and passes through countless medicinal herbs and plants, these are considered to be gifted with medicinal power. Geographically, these hills have considered the starting point of Tirumala hills, which has the Lord's presence bestowed upon it.
 
How to reach Talakona
Talakona is one of the most gratifying natural locations in India. You can reach this remote location through APSRTC buses from Tirupati to Bhakarapeta and from bhakarapeta there are buses and share autos plying to Talakona frequently, and even one can hire private travels from Bhakarapeta. As this is an environmentally protected area, the bigger vehicles are not permitted in the eco-zone.
